Call for Entries “Enzo Muccetti” Bassoon Competition 2026

The Associazione Oboisti e Fagottisti Italiani – APS (AOFI), with registered office in Rimini, Via dei Noci 8, 47923 Rimini (RN), Tax Code 91193750402, VAT No. 04750660401, hereby announces and organizes the first edition of the Music Performance Competition for oboists and bassoonists in accordance with its statutory aim.

The competition will take place in Bergamo at the Politecnico delle Arti “G. Donizetti – G. Carrara” from 10 to 13 September 2026 and is reserved to all members duly registered as of 31 July 2026.

Participation in the AOFI and Muccetti Competitions is free of charge.

The International “Enzo Muccetti” Competition is open exclusively to bassoonists born after 13 September 1996, i.e., not older than 30 years at the time of the competition.

The competition consists of three rounds (preliminary, semifinal, final).

At the end of each round, the names of candidates admitted to the next stage will be announced.

The rounds will take place in person from 11 to 13 September 2026 at the Politecnico delle Arti “G. Donizetti – G. Carrara” in Bergamo and will be open to the public.

Schedule

The detailed timetable of convocations will be sent to registered participants in the days preceding the start of the competition. The preliminary rounds will begin at 09:00 on 11 September 2026.

Pianist accompanists

Candidates may perform with their own accompanist.
Alternatively, an accompanist may be requested to the organization by indicating it in the application form. AOFI will subsequently provide the names of the accompanists. The pianist accompaniment entails a fee of €75 plus VAT as required by law, to be paid directly to the accompanist.

Giuria

The jury consists of musicians, teachers, and professionals of high artistic standing and recognized international experience. The jury reserves the right to interrupt performances at any time if deemed appropriate. The jury’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Preliminary Round

One piece of choice from each group:

Group A

• Antonio Torriani – Divertimento for bassoon on themes from “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Gaetano Donizetti
• Giuseppe Tamplini – Capriccio on themes from the opera “L’elisir d’amore” by Gaetano Donizetti

Group B

•⁠ Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach – Sonata in D minor, Wq. 132 for solo bassoon
• Johann Sebastian Bach – Partita BWV 1013 for solo bassoon (rev. Waterhouse)

Semifinal

One piece of choice from each group:

Group A

1.⁠ ⁠Camille Saint-Saëns – Sonata op. 168 for bassoon and piano
2. Roger Boutry – Interferences I for bassoon and piano
3. Marcel Bitsch – Concertino for bassoon and piano

Gruppo B

1.⁠ ⁠Johann Nepomuk Hummel – Concerto in F major for bassoon and orchestra
2. Carl Maria von Weber – Concerto in F major op. 75 for bassoon and orchestra
3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Concerto in B-flat major K. 191 for bassoon and orchestra

Final

Performance of two a concert by Antonio Vivaldi chosen from among the following accompanied by the string ensemble of the Politecnico delle Arti di Bergamo:

  • Concerto in C major RV 472
  • Concerto in B-flat major RV 503

Prize Concert

The winner of the International “Enzo Muccetti” Competition must perform, free of charge, in the Prize Concert on 13 September 2026 at Sala Piatti – Politecnico delle Arti – Bergamo.
Failure to participate will result in forfeiture of the prize, except in the case of serious and documented reasons.

Prizes

First Prize: €3,000 gross of legal withholding taxes and two concerts as bassoon soloist in the 2026/2027 season with the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese and the Orchestra da Camera Colibrì. These concerts are to be understood as unpaid engagements.

Second Prize: €1,500 gross of legal withholding taxes

Third Prize: €750 gross of legal withholding taxes

Registration Fee

Participation is free for all members.

Non-members wishing to participate must register by filling in the online form and paying the membership fee: €50 (ordinary member) or €25 (student member).

General Information

Logistics
Registered candidates will receive information on how to reach the competition venue and any agreements for accommodation and meals.

Refunds
The registration fee will be refunded only in the event of cancellation or postponement of the competition.

Liability
Participants are responsible for their instruments and personal belongings. The organization declines all responsibility in case of theft or damage.

Acceptance of the Regulations
Submission of the application implies full and unconditional acceptance of these Regulations.
